Kenya ups pension payout

Sarkozy, in Hospital after feeling ill
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was rushed to a hospital yesterday after falling ill while jogging near his weekend retreat on the grounds of the Chateau de Versailles, may head home today.
Sarkozy, 54, was taken by helicopter to the Val-de-Grace military hospital in Paris, where he stayed overnight after feeling faint following an “intense, 45-minute physical exercise,” his office said in a statement yesterday. He’s doing well, one of his ministers said.... Read more
TSC boss defends teachers recruitment plan
The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has defended the government’s move to hire new teachers on contract saying it will ease the biting shortage of teaching staff across the country.
TSC Secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni on Saturday said the country was short of about 60,000 teachers and said the planned recruitment on contract of 13,000 was a welcome move, and challenged the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) to support the initiative.... Read more
Uhuru wants Mau squatters compensated
Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta insists that genuine settlers of the now controversial Mau forest must be compensated before they are moved out of the controversial land.
